Nokia And AOL Partner For New Entrance Lumia Entertainment App

Nokia’s newest exclusive Windows Phone app helps users find information about music, movies, and TV shows and view some content all in the same app.
The new app is Entrance by AOL, and it combines a number of features into one comprehensive app. For movies Entrance lets users watch trailers and check showtimes. For music the app provides free full-length listens to popular new albums and streaming radio from thousands of SHOUT cast stations. For TV shows it offers photo galleries and news.

Entrance by AOL also brings users news for each of the topics highlighted in the app and celebrity news/gossip.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the app is the augmented reality feature. With augmented reality users can use their phones to find the closest movie theaters to them. The app overlays movie theater information on the realtime images from the Lumia‘s camera. The information shows users how far the theater is, price of tickets, and how when the next movie showings are. It’s perfect for travelers who want to see a movie, but aren’t sure where the closest theater is.

The app’s free music album previews come from AOL Music and CD Listening Party. After listening to the albums users have the option to buy and download them. The feature is only available for popular and “up-and-coming” artists, so don’t expect to listen to every new album for free.
Like any great Windows Phone app Entrance by AOL lets users pin content to their Start Screen for easy viewing later. Users can pin movies, artists, radio stations, albums, or celebrities for quick access. It’s great of keeping track of movies like The Hobbit or keeping up with the latest news on Robert Downey Jr. as he films Iron Man 3.

Entrance by AOL review exclusive to Nokia
Lumia Windows Phone

Entrance by AOL is the latest exclusive app for Nokia Lumia devices and brings all your entertainment, that’s music, movies and celebrity news into one place. Check out how it works with our Entrance by AOL review for Windows Phone.

Entrance by AOL has been designed and released exclusively for Nokia Lumia smartphones, which means you’ll find it runs on the high-end Nokia Lumia 900 as well as the entry-level Nokia Lumia 610, which we’ve tested it out on here.

Top 100 free Windows Phone apps for Nokia Lumia

It’s a gateway app that brings together all the latest entertainment news and information from all of AOL various channels, such as AOL Music, Moviefone and The Huffington Post Entertainment.

It has a standard Metro user interface, so you’ll find separate pages at the swipe of a finger. The app opens on the Featured page, giving you the option to drop into Movie, Music, TV or Celeb news channels.

Next up is In Theaters, which you may have guessed with its US spelling has an over-the-pond bias. Like Nokia Trailers you choose the movie you want simply by tapping on its poster image and you’ll be pushed through to the details page, which is powered by
Moviefone.

Movie showtimes only works in the US and Canada presently, which is annoying for anyone not in those countries but the listings give you an idea of what to expect to appear in cinemas shortly.

You can listen to over 55,000 SHOUTcast radio stations, but we found this to be the weakest part of the package as actually finding the station you want you need to know its name and with no categories discovering new ones is tricky.

Much better is the free music streaming via AOL Music, which offers up exclusive CD Listening Party (CDLP), which showcases a full album by an up and coming band. We were pretty impressed with CDLP as it works in exactly the same way as the desktop version and is a great feature to have running alongside Nokia Mix Radio as it gives you even more free music you can stream and listen to.

Entrance by AOL is a good app and will certainly appeal to anyone Stateside using a Nokia Lumia. The news channels and accessing the music are the features we’ve been using the most, as it neatly replicates what AOL already offers on the desktop side.
Entrance by AOL is free to download from the Nokia Collection of your handset.

If it hasn’t shown up in the dedicated Nokia Collection on your phone then tap the ‘More from Nokia Corporation’ tab in any app and you’ll find it on the long list of apps that are offered by Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 820 Vs Samsung Ativ S: powerhouse portables clash

Nokia Lumia 820 Vs Samsung Ativ S:
powerhouse portables clash

The Samsung Ativ S pre-order has begun at just under £400 for this Windows Phone 8 device but how does it compare against the mainstream Nokia Lumia 820? Find out as we put powerhosue mid-range portables to the stat clash.

Windows Phone 8 looks set to be made official later this month, so we hope to start seeing devices such as the Nokia Lumia 820 and Samsung Ativ S begin to appear shortly afterwards. The Samsung Ativ S may dwarf the Nokia Lumia 820 in screen size terms, 4.8-inch to 4.3-inch respectively but where Nokia clearly has the edge is in the use of the super-sensitive touchscreen, so you can access the screen with a gloved hand, a fingernail or even a pen nib, something you won’t find from any other smartphone on the market.

When it comes to performance, they both share the same core tech specs. So, you’ll find a 1.5GHz dual-core processor supported by 1GB of RAM powering both the Nokia Lumia 820 and Samsung Ativ S. This is more than enough to give your new Windows Phone 8 smartphone plenty of operating speed.

The Samsung Ativ S has a clear advantage when it comes to storage, packing in 32GB of internal memory, there may also be a budget 16GB version in the offering. The Nokia Lumia 820 by contrast has 8GB of internal storage but as both sport a microSD card slot you can add a further 32GB to the mix.

The Samsung Ativ S clearly has the edge in terms of size and weight and even manages to pack in a larger size battery, but you won’t find wireless charging like that offered by the Nokia Lumia 820 via interchangeable shell.

Nokia clearly has a better strategy when it comes to offering the user more. Nokia location-based services are an integral part of the Windows Phone 8 experience, so even the Samsung can now have a better mapping experience, but Nokia is going further with new enhanced Nokia Maps, Nokia Transport and Nokia City Lens features that make the mapping experience on the Nokia Lumia 820 simply miles ahead of the opposition.

Nokia’s Not-So-Shy Lumia 822 Caught On Camera Clad In Verizon Branding

Nokia’s Not-So-Shy Lumia 822 Caught On Camera Clad In Verizon Branding

AT&T and T-Mobile have already pulled back the curtains (well, mostly) on their stock of Nokia Lumia Windows Phones, but rival carrier Verizon has remained awfully quiet on the matter. That may soon change though, as a pair of newly leaked images point to the existence of a Lumia 820 variant meant for Verizon’s airwaves.
As you’d expect, the device — which WMPowerUser’s tipster refers to as the Lumia 822 — reportedly packs the same WVGA display and 8-megapixel rear camera that its cousin the 820 does, and there’s a strong chance that internals remain similarly unchanged. That tell-tale stamp on the 822’s butt means the device is also meant to play nice with Verizon’s 4G LTE network as well, though that’s really not much of a surprise.

Nokia has clearly taken some liberties with regard to industrial design here, as the 822 appears to be a much rounder affair and the other 800 series Windows Phones the Finnish company has signed off on. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem quite as thick as the downright brick-like Lumia 810 that T-Mobile recently laid claim to. It’s also worth noting that the model number attached to the device seems like a peculiar choice for a Lumia, but it’s not like Nokia doesn’t throw the occasional numerical curveball.

Perhaps naturally, this is isn’t the first time Verizon’s Lumia has been spotted. This whole sordid turn of events began earlier this week, when the notorious leaker(s) behind the @evleaks Twitter account distributed a render of the Verizon-bound Windows Phone (codenamed “Atlas”) for all to see, and it just so happens these new leaked photos match up quite nicely. Of course, a render can only tell you so much. Hell, even with these new images to consider, a number of the Lumia 822’s particulars still can’t be discern with any real degree of certainty.
For now we’ll just have to wait until Verizon comes clean on this little guy’s existence — or for some new leaks to blow everything wide open.

Nokia Lumia 810 hands-on review roundup

The Nokia Lumia 810 has been announced as coming to exclusive to T-Mobile in the coming weeks. Similar to the Nokia Lumia 820, we check out what the first Nokia Lumia 810 hands-on reviews have to say about this Windows Phone 8 smartphone.

T-Mobile used the Pepcom MobileFocus event at MobileCon 2012 in San Diego to allow people to get their first hands-on experience with the Nokia Lumia 810

The Nokia Lumia 810 takes the 4.3-inch of the Nokia Lumia 820 and the interchangeable shell design, so you can add extra features such as wireless charging, and the same feature-set inside. However, the big difference is a tweaked body shape with a more angular take on the Lumia design.

It’s coming exclusive to T-Mobile in the US in the coming weeks but let’s check out what the first journos to get their hands on this smartphone thought:

The Verge

When T-Mobile announced that it had an “exclusive” on the Nokia Lumia 810, we found the differences between it and the Lumia 820 so minor that it was hard to take the exclusivity seriously. Nevertheless, when T-Mobile put a unit on the table at MobileCon we felt it our duty to take a look, even though it wouldn’t power on. The 810 is not a small phone by any stretch: the bezels are large, the corners much squarer, and the thickness is noticeable. It’s 11.2mm thick, according to T-Mobile, a full 1mm thicker than the 820. The reasoning is ostensibly that the back cover is removable and can be swapped for another color, each of which includes the necessary electronics for wireless charging. The thinner 820 has the same feature, however, and a higher level of build quality overall.

Techcrunch

The Lumia 810 from T-Mobile comes in both black and cyan variants, and will have a 4.3-inch OLEG WVGA screen that could be very good-looking in practice, one might imagine. There’s also Windows Phone 8, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 1.2 megapixel front shooter for Skype and other communication apps, which could take very nice pictures, it’s reasonable to assume.

What we do know about the 810 is that it feels quite substantial compared to most contemporary smartphones, like in a way that actually isn’t altogether a good thing.
The Lumia 810 could easily use a diet, in fact, and there’s a lot of space taken up around the not-yet-active screen devoted to bezel. It’s a bold, aggressive design choice, and one that could result in a chunky chic appeal, but it could also backfire. In a world where thin and light are the name of the game, this is a phone that stands apart, as you can see by the side-by-side shots with it and the iPhone 5.

Engadget

Technically, the 810 is being dubbed a T-Mobile “exclusive” in the US, but that takes on very little meaning when given its use of a AWS-friendly HSPA+ 42Mbps radio. It bears some family resemblance in specs and looks to its cousin, the Lumia 820, but it still keeps to a distinct design; the 8MP rear camera panel is laid out vertically (see also: Lumia 800) rather than horizontally, the LED flash is off to its side, and the 1.2MP front-facing camera is on the opposite side of the earpiece. It’s still a little thicker and heavier than we’d like to see on a midrange device, which is mainly a result of the 810′s exchangeable wireless charging shells (it’s available in cyan and black).

The Lumia 810 also features a 4.3-inch OLED WVGA (800 x 480) ClearBlack display offering a pixel density of 217ppi. Naturally we’ll need to put this to the test once we’re allowed to turn it on, but we expect this to be roughly the same quality as the Lumia 900. We’ll let you know when more specs come our way, but in the meantime take a look at our hands-on images below.

Know Your Cell

T-Mobile will soon be offering the exciting Nokia Lumia 810 and we just had a chance to play with it at the MobileCon show. Unfortunately, this unit wasn’t powered on, so it’s tough to tell how well the screen will look. That’s kind of a shame too, as I’m sure that the 4.3-inch OLED WVGA display will be stunning.

The Nokia Lumia 810 will come in a variety of colors including the eye-catching cyan, which we were able to handle at the conference. It has a very nice feel to it with its polycarbonate body. The Lumia 810 also has some good heft to it: not too light but not too heavy.
16GB of internal storage and it will be one of the showcase devices for Windows Phone 8. We’ll get our review of the Lumia 810 as soon as possible but check out these additional photos until then

Nokia Asha 309 ‘Coming Soon’ to Nokia UK

The Nokia Asha 309 is the next Series 40 smartphone lite device running the Asha Touch interface to be launched and Nokia UK has highlighted that it will be coming to the UK.
The Nokia Asha 309 is a 3-inch touchscreen device running the Asha Touch version of Series 40, so you’ll find it reliable, well built and with a battery life that will simply last. While it takes after the Nokia Asha 306 in terms of looks, it uses the same capacitive screen tech as the higher-specced Nokia Asha 311, so you’ll find the screen highly responsive and nice to use.

Nokia Asha 309 Touchscren Smartphone lite with WiFi and Nokia Xpress Browser

The Nokia Asha 309 is billed as a ‘smartphone lite’ device as it offers everything you need from a smartphone, greta connectivity, features and the ability to download and install apps and updates on the go. However, the big difference is that while full-fat smartphones are designed to be always connected, smartphone lite devices have the cost-conscious in mind, so you’ll only be connected to online services when you want to be, so saving you money!

In terms of features, the Nokia Asha 309 comes with a 2-Megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom you’ll be able to take images up to a size of 1600 x 1200 pixels. Other features include 20MB of internal memory, 64MB of RAM and microSD slot for expansion up to 32GB. It measures 109.9 x 54 x 13mm and weighing in at 102g, it’s set to be a small and compact phone.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the Nokia Asha 309 but Nokia UK has updated its website to mark that it will be ‘Coming Soon’ so at least we know it will be made available here in the UK.

Check out the Nokia Asha 309 at Nokia UK

I wanna know your comments about Nokia Asha 309, Just do it thanks.
